We install and replace ceiling fans across northern New Jersey. The work itself is usually quick. What changes the price is almost always the box, the ceiling height, or whether wiring exists at all.

The fan-rated box
This is the single most common issue. A standard ceiling box is rated to hold a light fixture of a few pounds. A ceiling fan weighs considerably more and it moves, which puts ongoing dynamic load on the mounting. Fans require a listed fan-rated box braced to structure.
Fitting a fan to a standard box is one of the most frequent defects we find, and it is how fans end up on floors. If your existing fan wobbles noticeably, the box is worth checking before anything else.
What changes the price
- Replacing an existing fan where the box is already fan-rated. Quickest job.
- Fan where a light fixture is now. Needs a braced fan-rated box, sometimes fitted through the existing opening if there is no access above.
- Fan where nothing exists. New wiring, new box, and usually some drywall or plaster repair.
- High ceilings. Common in older Montclair, Glen Ridge and Morristown homes. Needs a downrod sized to the height and proper access equipment.
- Sloped or cathedral ceilings. Needs a canopy rated for the angle. Not every fan supports steep slopes.
- Separate fan and light control. Needs a three-wire run to the switch, or a remote and receiver if the wall only has two.
Pricing
Installation starts at $250 where wiring and a fan-rated box already exist. A new braced fan-rated box adds $150. New locations, high ceilings and new wiring are priced to the job and confirmed before we start.
