Most electricians make you call just to hear a number. Our electrical service pricing is published up front – with the honest caveat that every home and facility is different. Where a job is truly custom, we say so, and a first look is priced at our diagnostic rate below.
Service visits and troubleshooting
- Free 15-minute estimates on installations and upgrades – panels, EV chargers, lighting projects, and other quoted work.
- Diagnostic visit – starts at $225, covering the trip and your first hour of labor. Small fixes – a dead outlet, a GFCI, a bad switch – usually happen on the spot within that hour; you pay only for parts. If the visit needs more time, it’s $125 per hour. Anything bigger – a panel, new circuits, rewiring – gets a written quote before any work begins, with your diagnostic fee credited toward the project.
Common installations – starting prices
- Ceiling fans – starts at $250 on an existing fan-rated box; add $150 if a new fan-rated box is needed. Elaborate and high-ceiling installs start at $475.
- Smart and video doorbells – starts at $350 for a customer-supplied doorbell; transformer upgrades and new wiring quoted as needed.
- Recessed lighting – starts at $200 per light installed; a four-light room starts at $1,000 including wiring. New-work vs. old-work construction affects the price.
- Dedicated circuits – starts at $450 for hot tubs, dryers, appliances, and EV pre-wires. Run length and routing affect the final price.
- Whole-home surge protection – starts at $600 for an entry-level Type 2 SPD installed at your panel, with advanced multi-stage protection available. Professional installation is what keeps the manufacturer’s connected-equipment warranty valid.
- EV chargers – starts at $1,500. Most installations qualify for PSE&G EV charging incentives – we’ll walk you through it. See our EV charger installation service.
- Subpanels – starts at $1,500, depending on location, capacity, and wiring conditions.
- Battery backup systems – starts at $3,000 installed, sized to what you actually need to keep running. See backup power solutions.
- Panel replacement – starts at $1,500, for the panel itself where the existing service entrance stays as it is.
- Service upgrade, 100-amp to 100-amp – starts at $3,000, when an existing 100-amp service is replaced and brought up to current code.
- Service upgrade, 100-amp to 200-amp – starts at $4,500, including a new meter pan, new service entrance cable, and PSE&G coordination.
- 200-amp to 400-amp and above – quoted after assessment.
- Every panel and service job includes utility coordination, building-department permitting, water main and hot water tank bonding, a new grounding electrode system, and a surge protector with every new panel. See panel upgrades and replacement.
Inspections and certifications
- CCO electrical inspections – starts at $350, including a certification letter tailored to what your buyer, seller, or town requires.
